The main members of the group comprise the Editorial Board of the journal Isopoliteia: Journal of Philosophy of Law, Political and Moral Philosophy, which appears, after its original launch in 1997, twice a year. Members of the Advisory Board include R. Dworkin, J. Habermas, T. Nagel, A. Nehamas, M. Nussbaum, O. O’Neill, A. Sen and J. Waldron. The main members of the group which are affiliated to the Faculty of Law of the University of Athens belong to the Department of History and Theory of Law and teach courses in Philosophy of Law, Legal Methodology and Introduction in Legal Science, on both an undergraduate and a postgraduate level (LLM in Philosophy of Law). The group organizes a permanent seminar in Philosophy of Law with the participation of teaching staff from other Departments of the Faculty of Law, or other Faculties of the University of Athens, or other Universities from Greece or abroad (for instance, V. Tsouna-McKirahan [Santa Barbara, USA] and G.C. Christie [Durham, USA], who have also taught courses at the LLM in Philosophy of Law), as well as supreme court judges. Under the initiative of the Department R. Dworkin, J. Habermas and T. Scanlon have been awarded honorary doctorate degrees. T. Christiano, G.C. Christie, A. Duff, R. Dworkin, J. Habermas, D. von der Pfordten, Ph. Pettit, G. Postema and T. Scanlon have been invited to present papers and to participate in the aforementioned seminar. The main research interests of members of the group lie in philosophy of law and political and moral philosophy, disciplines understood as forming a continuum. The group’s activities are motivated by the belief that a public debate revolving around normative subjects pertaining to legal and political practice is possible and has to be encouraged. This debate must exemplify at the same time the lucidity of theoretical reason and the proximity to everyday issues that characterizes public life. The aim of the group is to contribute to the formation of an ongoing debate on general and special matters.
